In their recent article, Thunder Bay News Watch reported that Thunder Bay Regional plans to ramp up to 120 per cent of surgical capacity in the first week of October to work through the added caseloads, which is about 1,000 more than the usual 3,000 on the waiting list at any given time.

Locally, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre is well ahead of the curve, but Dr. Stewart Kennedy, who headed the hospital’s COVID-19 response, said by October the facility’s surgical teams could be asked to perform operations at well over capacity in order to clear the wait list…”
